Biography
After
graduating from Franklin High School in 1995, Freedom attended
Seattle Central Community College and achieved his Associates
of Arts Degree in June 1997. Freedom then continued his education
at Washington State University, where he will obtain his Bachelor
of Arts in History, a double major in Comparative American Cultures
with an emphasis in Asian American Studies, and a minor in Psychology.
During
his stay at Washington State University, Freedom occupied himself
with student organizations, and took positions as Historian and
Treasurer for the Filipino American Student Association.
He also served as co-chair for the Washington State Filipino American
Student Alliance Conference for three consecutive years.
In January 1998 Freedom entered Omega Phi Omega Fraternity, Incorporated
and became President for the 1998-1999 school year. During
his presidency he implemented and directed Projekt Kuya which
used his fraternity to encourage and empower Filipino American
and minority high school students to aspire for post secondary
education. Freedom was the recipient of the 1999 Presidents Award,
which honored WSU students who effected the community with their
student involvement. He continues his involvement as a Student
Mentor for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Center,
a division of Washington State University Multicultural Retention
Services.
Freedom
will obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree 6 May 2000, and plans
to attend graduate school soon after. His aspirations are
to achieve a Masters degree in Teaching, with further aim to enter
a Doctoral program either in Ethnic Studies or Educational Administration
with a focus on Curriculum Development.
Freedom
earned a Master's degree in Education from Whitworth College.
He is now teaching in Seattle, Washington.
