Becoming a McNair Scholar

The McNair program is an intensive graduate school preparation program that typically takes two years to complete. While we do accept Seniors into the program, students are encouraged to apply to the program at the end of their Sophomore year for participation in their Junior and Senior years. The schedules of progression through the program are as follows:

Eligibility Requirements

  1. US Citizen or Permanent Resident

  2. First generation college student (neither parent/guardian earned a Bachelor's degree) and low income as defined by federal TRiO regulations. For exact figures, please see Annual Low Income Levels.

    OR

    A member of an underrepresented group in graduate education as defined by federal TRiO regulations: African American, Chicana/o Latina/o, Native American, Native Hawaiian, and other Pacific Islander.

  3. Enrolled full-time as an undergraduate at WSU-Pullman

  4. 60 academic credits by Fall 2008

  5. WSU Cumulative grade-point average of 2.85

  6. Desire to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD)

Applications

Applications for 2008-09 will be available Friday, February 22, 2008 as a downloadable file and as a hard copy at numerous locations across campus.
