Simplified English is a type of technical English used to make documents easy to read. Simplified English considers the reader. Many people who read technical English are not native speakers of English. They may not read English well. Simplified English can help them understand complex texts. Simplified English was originally developed to help writers in the aerospace industry. Boeing Corporation developed Simplified English for its international consumers and technicians. Now there are forms of Simplified English for many different business and technical fields.

Simplified English starts with a core vocabulary of about 1000 words in a specific field and a number of grammar rules. However, Simplified English at Washington State University is a little different. The WSU version uses the Longman Defining Vocabulary of 2000 common words and the following grammar rules. These rules are the most commonly used rules of Simplified English.
