Potential New Members,

Congratulations on your admission to WSU and your decision to look at our Greek system to see how how you can benefit from fraternity life.  Phi Kappa Theta was founded at Brown and Lehigh Universities in 1889.  It is the combination of Phi Kappa and Theta Kappa Phi Fraternities.  It is the only true union of the fraternities in the Greek world.  Phi Kappa Theta is proud of our brotherhood and leadership opportunities that we have provided to college men for over 100 years.

The fraternity realizes your primary reason for attending college is your education.  Enhancing your education with fraternity membership may mean receiving many scholarships available through Phi Kappa Theta Foundation, taking advantage of an internship in the Executive Office, or becoming a leader within the chapter.  Leadership on the National Level is a blend between experienced alumni and two undergraduates who sit on the Board of Trustees.  The undergraduate Advisory Committee offers direction and ideas that are carried out for the organization as a whole.  The Alpha Delta Chapter at WSU holds true to our fraternal value of scholarship.  For the last two years we have consistently been a leader in academics in the Greek community.  Our Spring 2007 Chapter GPA was a 3.24; the highest of all fraternities and well above all but one sorority, the all-greek average, all-womens average, all mens average, and the all campus average. In Fall of 2007 and Spring 2008 we were in the top five for all areas of academics among fraternities.

Contrary to what many people think, fraternities are not expensive.  Fraternity membership costs less than 1.5 % of your total college expense.  Membership in a fraternity can save you money, especially in entertainment costs.  The cost of a year in a double occupancy dorm room with a level 3 meal plan (which is the same if not less food than is provided within the fraternity) is 7,630.  Compare with the room and board cost for Phi Kappa Theta of 6000.

Many chapters of Phi Kappa Theta contribute in the efforts to aid such organizations as the United Way, March of Dimes, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Heart Association, and many others.  As a national fraternity we contribute holistically to the Children's Miracle Network.  Being a responsible part of the WSU college community and your city means a sense of volunteerism on the local level also.  Like shoveling snow for the elderly, participating in philanthropies, and the annual Greek Week.

By joining Phi Kappa Theta, you become part of a national fraternity whose membership includes: John F. Kennedy, Paul Allen, Paul Allaire, Gene Kelly, Paul Galvin, Thomas F. Patton, Frank Starzel, and his holiness, Pope John Paul II.  Becoming a member of a fraternity is a life long commitment.  Here at Phi Kappa Theta we have one have one of the strongest Alumni backings in the Greek community.  I have personally met and kept contact with alumni from the Alpha Delta chapter of WSU from as early as 1945, as well as other Alumni from around the country.

I encourage you to continue exploring the benefits of the Greek community at Washington State University, especially the brotherhood of Phi Kappa Theta.  I also encourage you to share this information with your parents.  The decision to join a fraternity is one in which they should be involved in too. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
