Pullman is adjacent to the Pacific Northwest's superb recreational areas. Within a half-day's drive are numerous forests, lakes, rivers, and place to camp, hike, fish, hunt, boat, swim, snow, or water ski, and go whitewater rafting. Yellowstone, Glacier, and Olympic National Parks, Mt. Rainier, Mt.St.Olympic National Parks, Mt. St. Helens, Crater Lake, and Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada can be reached in a day. Employment opportunities exist within the combined communities and the two universities. It is also expected that companies locating in the Park provide employment opportunities for graduate students and spouses of faculty and staff members. Pullman, Washington, population 24,000, is located 80 miles south of Spokane and 285 miles east of Seattle. Together with the University of Idaho, 8 miles east in Moscow, WSU provides a center of cultural and intellectual life for the combined community of more than 50,000. The community offers important advantages cost of living, an ethnically diverse population, excellent public schools, seven parks, a hospital, and an active community life with opportunities for participation.
