inspiration from odd places

so tonight I watched some scrubs and the Joe Dirt...

scrubs was awesome... probably one of the best hours of tv I've seen in quite some time... probably because these episodes hit home with me... they talked about how J.D. was afraid of commitment, then made fun of it, and it was quality... anyways it just got me thinking about that whole situation and everything...

then came joe dirt. ok, I know this is not a "high caliber movie" by any means, but I really enjoy it. It got me thinking about life... how he never quit... he wanted to once, but he didn't... his life sucked major ass, but he had to "keep on keepin' on"... but then I thought about why I don't just keep on keepin' on, and then I had another thought... the whole time he had a set goal... to find his parents... which is a huge goal that is concrete and attainable(within certain boundaries of course)... but that's a whole lot more concrete than what I was planning for my future, which was "get a job, get married, and start a family, and basically kick some ass and roll some cars"...

so then I had the thought to set some concrete goals, and go for em.

anyone have any concrete goals?

Comments:
Not that you probably really want my two cents, but being at a place where I have virtually no concrete goals (go graduation!), I've been searching really hard to figure out what to do with myself. Outside of my music bubble, I am constantly complimented on my "self-discipline", but have found I have none if there is not an immediate goal and reward (or diversion of punishment) in front of me. I am no better than anyone else.

Anyway, I've found the best thing for myself is to do just what you've suggested: make sure you have good long-term goals, then set about periodically (heck, daily) putting up attainable goals to achieve that get you that inch closer to the long-term ones. And I HAVE to schedule in fun time...I can't practice otherwies. If there's nothing to look forward to, I'll never start.

Lol, I'm not sure what you were hoping for in comments, but hopefully this'll get people started.

Quality. Who ever knew that Joe Dierte was such a valuable movie. You rock Peter...

By the way, don't ask others to think of life goals, buddy, you're the one who has to keep them, so you should be the one making them up...

I kind of have to agree with Alex here, bro. When we've been talking, it's clear that you already know what your goals really are...but now that you're actually thinking about attaining them they always end up becoming harder to figure out. But you know what you really want, and you know what you need to do or stop doing or change how you do in your life in order to get to where you want to be.

Your friends can help you set goals to a point, but really what they're best for is for helping you to get to the goals you set for yourself and to offer their support when you need it.

By the way, when you need it...you know where I am. Just don't give up on these goals so easily. Get them written down someplace where you can get to them in the future. If you want to, e-mail them to one of your friends so other people know what you're up to, too. Because a goal that exists purely in your mind is one that can't be reinforced well and is awfully prone to forgetfulness.

Sorry, that got long. Anyway, I love you, bro. And I miss you, too. Good luck with those goals, and maybe let me know what some of them are.
