Departmental Information
Admission to Washington State University Graduate School is a joint decision between the Dean of the Graduate School and your prospective department or college.
Many departments require additional materials or have earlier deadlines, so we recommend you contact them early iin the process. Also, if you miss the priority deadline, you must contact the department to see if they are still accepting applications.

Admission Requirements
- Prospective domestic students must have received a baccalaureate degree from a college or university, accredited by a recognized association, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.
- Prospective international students must have the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree from an approved institution.
- Usually a minimum of four years of study beyond grade 12
- a grade point average equivalent to a U.S. grade of

- Evidence of financial support
- Acceptance by the department or program in which prospective students seek a degree or graduate study.

- The Dean of the Graduate School grants final approval of admission, assuming general admission requirements have been met, and when evidence indicates a high probability of success in the prospective degree program.

Applicants may not be considered regardless of the previous institution's credentials if their application is deemed inadequate, incomplete, or insufficient.

Online application instructions
- In order for applications to be considered, all required sections must be completed.
- Include an authorized credit card payment for the US $50 non-refundable processing fee.
- For the online application WSU only accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards or online Pay by Check through U.S. bank accounts. Checks sent by mail are not accepted.
Security information: Your debit/credit card information
is encrypted during transmission from your browser
to
our server and during payment authorization. None of your
debit/credit card information is stored in our
database.

- Date and place of birth
- Residency information
- Name and location of all colleges and universities and dates of attendance
- All degrees earned, or expected, and dates
- Former WSU student ID# (if applicable)
- Visa/MasterCard number and expiration date

- Names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, institution or business, and positions of three references for letters of recommendation
Letters of Recommendation
Once you submit your application, your references will be contacted automatically through the online application system and asked to submit electronically a recommendation form.
Since their recommendations will come directly to the Graduate School once they have submitted the electronic version, there is no need for a paper recommendation.
Please contact these references to be sure they are willing to respond to your request for a recommendation and ask them to discuss your leadership, academic standards, and skills as they pertain to your primary interest area.

Helpful Hints
- Start your application process as soon as possible.
- The application is case sensitive; enter names exactly as you would like the Graduate School to receive them. (example: McDonald, rather than mcdonald)
- Only abbreviate when absolutely necessary. Do not abbreviate school names.
- Enter your full legal name as it would appear on your passport.

Transcripts
Official transcripts are those mailed directly to the Graduate School from the registrar of the institution attended; transcripts that are not sent directly from the registrar are not acceptable. International applicants whose institutions will not send official transcripts must submit their official documents to the Graduate School in an official, sealed envelope from their institution. One set of official transcripts is required. All transcripts sent to the Graduate School as part of the application process become part of the official Graduate School application file and cannot be returned or transferred. Records from Washington State University need not be submitted since these are available to the Graduate School. Departments and Programs are free to request additional transcripts as deemed appropriate.
The following is required for admission to the Graduate School at Washington State University.
Applicants who are citizens of the United States or Canada, or permanent residents of the United States must submit:
- Transcripts from all accredited colleges or universities attended for any undergraduate coursework (including undergraduate coursework taken after the bachelor’s degree); and
- Transcripts from the accredited colleges or universities from which any bachelor’s degrees and/or graduate degrees have been granted or are expected; and
- Transcripts from the accredited colleges or universities showing any graded graduate level (including doctoral) coursework taken after the bachelor’s degree.
International applicants must submit:
- Official transcripts, mark sheets, grade reports, or examination results from all higher education institutions attended; an institution-certified English translation with academic credentials are required if these documents are not written in English; and
- Official institution-certified copies of degree certificates and its official English translation if they are not written in English.
Please note:
Students intending to request transfer credit for their Program of Study will need to submit official transcripts from colleges or universities showing such credit.
