TIMESONG,1991-93
44x27x7 in
Timesong senses the distance and motion of a viewer, responding with sound and
moving light compositions. It also is a clock, and chimes the hour with a
different sounding chime each hour. It uses an eight-bit computer to compose
variables in; harmonic content of the sounds, sequences of light and
sound, and the qualities of its response to the distance and motion of a
viewer. With no viewer present, it 'sleeps' quietly, occasionally playing a
short tune from its current repertoire, at widely spaced random intervals.
It's compositions are derived from very large numbers, almost eliminating the
possibility of a repeat performance.
Another clock.
