Poshusta is a Czech name brought to America from Prague by Charles Poshusta in 1865. He settled in a small Czech community called Spilville, Iowa, where the composer Anton Dvorak spent the summer of 1893. One of Charles' sons, Leopold, started a furniture business in Calmar. Leopold's youngest son, Joseph H. Poshusta, a carpenter and cabinet maker, was my father.
J.H. Poshusta married Florence Aaby of Decorah, Iowa. She was the only daughter of Edward Aaby and Laura Emery. Aaby is a Norwegian name and Emery is Scotch and Irish.
