1. Turn on the Scanner FIRST.
2. Turn on Mac #3.
3. Open your Microsoft Word (or other program such as
FileMaker Pro) document; or for a new untitled Word document,
pull down the Apple menu and select Microsoft Word If
you don't open a document first, your scanned text will be put on
a clipboard (for cut/paste) or possibly thrown away.
4. Pull down the Apple menu and select OmniPage
Direct.
5. Place sheet of paper to be scanned face down on scanner,
centered according to arrows.
6. Select Auto unless you are scanning only a portion of
the page. If you wish to scan a partial page, read pp. 21-24 in
the manual. Select Single Page or Multiple Pages
(you will be prompted to change sheets).
7. To make other changes in the scan format, such as page size or
orientation, brightness, or if you wish a carriage return
<CR> at the end of every line (as for poetry), etc., click
on Options and make the desired changes.
8. If you have opened a formatted document (rather than a new
empty untitled one), insert the cursor at the place in your
document where you want the scanned text to appear.
9. Click on Scan to start scanning. When the scan is
complete, the program will automatically quit and close
its window. Your scanned text will appear in your opened
document. Unrecognized characters are represented in your text
file with a tilde (~).
10. When you are finished scanning, Shut Down the Mac, then
turn the scanner off.
