1. Under File select New. Set up the document the way you want it. Be sure to specify:
2. You will now see your entire document and a tool bar. The tools are as described:

| Allows you to select, move, and resize objects and text blocks. | Text tool. Allows you to type, select, and edit text block. | |
| Allow you to rotate an object. | Cropping tool to trim graphics. | |
| Draws straight lines. | Draws straight lines at 45° intervals. | |
| Draws rectangles and squares | Creates a rectangle frame for text and objects. | |
| Draws circles and ellipses | Creates a oval frame for text and objects | |
| Draws polygons. | Creates a polygon frame for text and objects | |
| Drags the page horizontally or vertically | Allows you to magnify or reduce. | |
TEXT EDITING
1. Before you begin typing open the Control Palette under the Windows menu.
2. When the
button is selected you can change font,
size, style, vertical and horizontal alignment, and font width. When the
is
selected you can choose paragraph alignment, indentation, and style. You
can adjust these elements at any time by selecting the text to be edited
and then changing the settings.
3. To enter text select the text tool. Click in the general area you want the text to be and begin typing. If the text is unreadable use the zoom tool to magnify the text. Text may be pasted in from Word.
4. The text can then be moved using the arrow button or rotation button.

Windows
1. There are four Windows you will probably be concerned with using:

| Colors | Use this window to add color to your text, lines or geographic shapes. | |||||

| Control Palette | This window's function will change depending upon what tool you have selected. Generally it will allow you to adjust size position and rotation to a very exact degree. | |||||
| Layers Palette | This palette will allow you to create layers in your document. Layers can then be edited individually. |
Lines and Polygons
1. Lines and polygons can be created from the Toolbox Window.
2. Line thickness and style and polygon fill, corner shape, and number of sides can be adjusted under the Elements menu.
Frames
1. Frames are created the same as polygons.
2. Once the frame is created you can type text or insert an object in to the frame.
3. Frame elements can be adjusted under Frames in the Elements Menu.
Inserting Images
1. To insert an image go to the File menu and select Place. Find the image you want and select OK.
2. Several image formats will work but you should consult page 339 in the User Guide for specifics on when and where to use which fomats.
3. Once you have selected OK. You will see and icon that looks like one of these:

4. Move the icon to the general area where you want the image and click the mouse button.
5. You may now move and resize the image with the arrow tool.
6. The image may also be cropped with the cropping tool.
