Storlie EW, Walker-Simmons MK, Anderson JA and Allan RE (1998) Effect of the Fr1-Vrn1 interval on cold hardiness in wheat. Proceedings of the 9th International Wheat Genetics Symposium, Saskatoon, SK, Canada, August 2-7. (Abstract)

LT50 tests (lethal temperature of 50% of plants) were conducted on wheat RI (Recombinant-Inbred) lines that differed for alleles of the Vrn1 (vernalization-)-Fr1 (frost resistance) interval, to determine the effects of the interval on cold hardiness levels between the hardy Norstar and less hardy Centurk78 cultivars. RI lines derived from a cross between Norstar and Centurk78 are being analyzed with probes wg644 and psr426 to identify vrn1-Fr1 genotypes and to correlate with LT50 scores. Initial results indicate that the RI lines have segregated for LT50 scores and for genotypes of the vrn1-Fr1 interval.
