Study/Discussion Questions:

1. List some words that you associate with care, with cure.
2. What are the four principles that govern attorney Macurdy's interactions with health- care professionals and the medical system? Discuss their importance for patients, families, health-care providers.
3. Discuss your experiences of caring, contrast them with experiences of oppression?
4. Compare and contrast the concepts of lived body experiences and object body experiences as described by Frank. Why are these concepts important? How might you apply them to patients.
5. Identify the characteristics of restitution, chaos and quest narratives. How can the nurse demonstrate caring in response to each of these stories?
6. Why does Pinch think caring might be a moral trap. Respond to her concerns.
