Nursing Process Part I
Learning Assignment:
Work with 2-3 other students to complete the case entitled John (see N320 web page).
E-mail your answers to me. Subject line should read John. Be sure the names of all group
members appear on the e-mail so you all get credit for your work. Deadline for this case
is 9/10/98. This activity is worth 1% of your total grade in the course.
Study/Discussion Questions: Come to Class prepared to discuss
questions below as well as the case John
1. Why do we use nursing process? What are the steps in nursing process? How are each
of the steps related to one another?
2. Compare and contrast the nursing process, the scientific process, and the research
process.
3. What do the acronyms NANDA, NIC and NOC represent? Why are these systems
important?
4. What are some advantages and disadvantages of using nursing diagnoses?
5. What is a nursing model for data collection? How is it used? What other models exist
that serve the same purpose?
6. Cluster data using one of the models presented in the text. How might clustering help
you to identify patterns and problems?
7. Write a correctly stated three-part nursing diagnosis based on assessment data.
8. Use Maslow's hierarchy and the criteria and steps presented in the Alfaro text to
prioritize problems.
9. What is the proper format for writing a nursing diagnosis for an actual problem? What
is the format for writing a nursing diagnosis for a risk problem? Why are these formats
different?
