COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Apply physiological and developmental concepts from previous and concurrent courses to the nursing process.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of nursing process as applied to well/ill clients.
3. Discuss the nurse role in the care of well/ill clients.
4. Identify client roles in the health care situation.
5. Identify therapeutic and non­therapeutic communication skills with well/ill clients.
6. Discuss relationship theory in selected nurse­client situations.
7. Analyze basic needs and adaptation theories in relation to care of selected clients across the age spectrum of young adult through senescence.
8. Discuss the holistic approach to provision of nursing care.
9. Identify teaching­learning principles relevant to individual clients.
10. Discuss nursing interventions relative to perioperative care of patients.
11. Compare nursing interventions to meet basic needs for adult­patients of different age groups.
12. Compare needs of post­operative patient and patients with restricted mobility.
13. Identify ethical and legal aspects relevant to nursing care of clients across the age spectrum of young adult through senescence.
14. Apply principles of critical thinking to foundational nursing concepts.


INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES:
Lecture/discussion, reading assignments, storytelling, case studies, computer assisted learn-ing and audiovisual presentations will be utilized.
