You will need to respond to questions 1- 4  from the reading. This information will be tested. Guest lecturers will discuss relocation as an exemplar of stress and "the Eden alternative" as an environmental/contextual intervention.

1. Define stress and give examples of the effects of stress on health status.
2. What are the physiological responses to stress in each of the three phases of the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS)? Relate the physiological indicators of stress to physiological changes. Describe the long-term physiological and psychological consequences of high stress levels.
3. Compare, contrast, and give examples of task oriented behaviors and ego-defense mechanisms that individuals may use in response to stressors.
4.Describe 3 factors that contribute to successful relocation.
5.Describe the Eden alternative.  How might this environmental intervention contribute reducing relocation stress?
6. Use the criteria given on page 218 of Alfaro-LeFevre to identify clients with a nursing diagnosis of relocation stress.
