Members Share Information at Annual Conference

ChimpanZoo members share information at an annual conference and contribute regularly to the world’s largest database on captive chimpanzees. Zoos around the world use the database to improve care techniques for their chimpanzees. The database contains a rich variety of information about captive chimpanzee behavior, heath, personality, genealogy, and demographics as well as life histories.

The 2006 ChimpanZoo conference, held at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens focused on chimpanzees in entertainment and advertising. Under the theme “War of Worlds: Chimpanzee Protection vs. Chimpanzee Exploitation,” the conference looked at the devastating social and environmental deprivations that negatively impact pet, entertainment, and laboratory chimpanzees' lives. The conference’s aim was to produce an action framework for gaining legal protections for exploited chimpanzees.
